Our desperate need for God

In a culture that promotes avoiding weakness at all costs, it is good to be reminded of our desperate need for God. We don’t need reminders of our greatness as much as we need reminders of our weakness. Maybe we should spend less time focusing on our self-esteem and more time reinforcing God’s work in us. Instead of buying into a perspective that says we need to be strong at all costs, let’s go the opposite way and fall on the altar of God’s mercy, sufficiency, and forgiveness through Jesus.—What’s Your Secret? page 86

This is especially appropriate for me right now. I just found out that a friend of mine is dying of pancreatic cancer. Yes, the dreaded C word. Probably about the only thing that strikes fear into everyone anymore. Reminds us of our humanity and how much we need God—desperately need God.
